Meredith Grotevant is a musician and composer from Austin, Texas, currently in her first year at Oberlin College and Conservatory. At Oberlin, Meredith is a double-degree student studying Sociology and Technology in Music and Related Arts (TIMARA). Having spent 10 years studying classical and jazz guitar, the guitar remains an integral element in many of her compositions. In her work, Meredith is interested in exploring the line between realistic and synthesized environments and creating texture through the melding of natural and performed sound sources. Her influences range from the synth-heavy work of Mort Garson, the jazz-fusion guitar playing of Bill Frisell, and the experimental Americana legacy of Susan Alcorn.
